"User experience is the process of making a website or application intuitive and straightforward for users."
User experience (UX) is a critical aspect of any website or digital application. In essence, UX is the process of ensuring that a website or application is straightforward for users to navigate and comprehend. While a website or digital application design may be considered the best by the creators, it is not necessarily guaranteed to be perceived as such by customers. This is particularly the case if the website or application is unusable or difficult to understand.
It is therefore crucial to ensure that the website or application is not only aesthetically pleasing but also intuitive and functional. Indeed, a report from The Gomez indicates that 88% of online customers will not return to a website after having a negative experience with regard to user experience. It is therefore essential that we implement a number of measures to ensure that our user experience design meets the needs of our customers. In this case, Ivosights has compiled a summary of six UX rules that must be considered, as outlined below.
Research
To create a website that is effective and aligns with the needs of our target audience, it is essential to conduct thorough research. In this case, it is important to consider several factors related to our customers, such as their habits and interests. In addition to identifying customer needs through self-reflection, we can also conduct user experience research to gain deeper insights.
Intuitive and Easy to Use
In his book, Don't Make Me Think, Steve Krug asserts that a well-designed website should be intuitive and easy to use, eliminating the need for users to think about how they interact with it. This is a crucial guideline to adhere to. It is important to remember that when visiting a website, people do not enjoy having to think about how to complete tasks. While users may visit a website out of necessity, if the website is not easy to understand, they will not return.
Responsive
In the current era, the vast majority of people utilize mobile devices on a daily basis. It is therefore crucial to develop a website that is responsive, in terms of both appearance and functionality, across a range of devices. Furthermore, a responsive website will enhance the readability of content on mobile devices. Consequently, this will facilitate easier access for all users to the website.
Create an Effective Copy
It is not sufficient to consider only the appearance and design of a website; the copy or sentences that we will display on the website must also be taken into account. The content should be clear, engaging, and effective. It should avoid a promotional or advertising tone. Furthermore, users are not inclined to engage with lengthy content or explanations, so it is advisable to avoid displaying such material.
Consistency
It is the responsibility of interface designers to ensure that graphical elements and terminology are consistently applied throughout. For instance, the color or tone of the images should be consistent. Furthermore, the terminology and language style must be consistent.
Creating an excellent user experience requires a significant investment of time and effort. However, when we succeed in creating a user experience in accordance with the aforementioned rules, we will be able to provide our customers with an excellent user experience.
